As a young artist, I once read a story about a pair of enchanted ghungroos that transformed a kathak dancer’s life. Looking at my own pair, I realized that the simplest of objects can indeed hold magic that flows through the soul of the performer.
Anklet Bells
Sweetly they chime,
In harmonious time
Like shattering glass
These bells of brass
They jingle and ring
Like a bubbling spring
Like the rustle of breeze
And the buzzing of bees
Like birds at dawn
All ears are drawn
To the clinking of metal
In an intricate petal
These golden balls
Tinkle through the halls
Setting the beat
By the dancers’ feet
Tarnished by age
And perfect for stage
Casting magical spells
Are the anklet bells
